RoleSam Thompson-modified

Please describe your role.
I will be providing support to our contract customers and our regional sales managers with the design of kitchens, bedrooms & home office layouts.

How long have you been part of the Waterline team?
Since January 2024.

Share a memorable moment from your career that has shaped who you are today?
Wow, that’s a hard question. If I had to pick a moment/s it would be completing my kitchen design degree. Those three years taught me so much not only about design but about myself. I was working full time, I had two children, I was planning my wedding and for the last year of my degree, I fell pregnant and gave birth 6 months before my dissertation, people thought I was mad! But… I completed it. It was a lesson to myself that no matter who tells you to quit and if you want something enough – you can do it.

Interests

What's your favourite hobby or pastime outside of work?
I’m definitely an outdoorsy girl and feel happiest being surrounded by nature, hiking in the middle of nowhere with my family with no particular place to go is where I feel most relaxed.. A pair of comfy boots, a climb and an amazing view!

What's one thing on your bucket list you hope to achieve this year?
I’d like to learn to rock climb, ironic really as I don’t do well with heights!

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
Indonesia would be at the top of my list. When I go away I like to explore, Indonesia looks beautiful and has everything I enjoy! Beautiful beaches, stunning temples, lakes, waterfalls and so many mountains to hike!

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Does it have to be just one? I love spice so it would have to be a homemade curry but then a good sharing bag of kettle crisps (to myself of course) with dips is my go to snack food. 😃

Impressions

Share a fun fact about yourself that most people don't know.
When I was younger I wanted to be a marine biologist. I enjoyed scuba diving from a young age and wanted to study the manta ray.

What's the last book you read or movie you watched that left a lasting impression on you?
I don’t really do much of either. If I had to pick one it would be the book “How not to die” by Gene Stone & Michael Greger. It sounds quite depressing but it really isn’t haha. This sparked my interest in the correlation between diet and disease and I have continued to research this since.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
If I could speak any language for a day I’d have dinner with Imhotep, an Egyptian architect. I’d find it fascinating to learn exactly what they understood about engineering and how they implemented it.

What's your favourite quote or mantra that inspires you?
“The biggest mistake we make in life is thinking we have time”  - Do the things you have been scared to do, travel where you can and do more of what you love. 😊
